How to comply

The classic trap

Recital 178 encourages providers of high-risk AI systems to comply voluntarily with the Regulation's obligations during the transitional period, before the August 2026 deadline. The trap: many organisations read this invitation as permission to wait until the last minute. In reality, the EU AI Office and national market surveillance authorities will value early compliance in their first inspections, and the CNPD already reviews AI systems processing personal data under GDPR without waiting for the AI Act. Starting late means accumulating technical debt (risk management Article 9, technical documentation Annex IV, logging Article 12, human oversight Article 14) that cannot be recovered in a few months.
